Online Response #1
Go to one of the Websites we looked at on Friday.
What can you learn about missions or the world from this site?
What are some of its benefits?
What are some of its limitations?
Here is a list of some of the sites we discussed:
http://www.ted.com
http://www.biblegateway.com
http://www.shorttermmissions.com
http://www.livemocha.com
and finally, as promised,

I went to www.livemocha.com. It was an interesting site. You can learn many things from this site. All you have to do is pick a language that you want to learn and you can speak to people in a country where they speak that language and you can ask them anything about their culture and perhaps even missionary work that is going on their, as long as your are willing to reciprocate. A limitation to this is you can never really know if someone is telling you the truth and if they even are from that country. They maybe a 45 year postal worker just being dumb. So you do not really know the reliability and crediblity of your source.
I went to livemocha.com and I actually really love it! I signed up to learn french and it gives you an opportunity to talk to others from all over the world and also help tutor them in english or whatever your main language may be. Personally though I think the main limitation would be the accountability, because although I want to learn this language its not always easy to stay consistent!
Biblegateway, what a usful source! I love it beause of the multiple ways to search for a Bible verse. The keyword search makes it simple to find those verses that you remember but can't quite remember where it's found. The downside, is that it tends to make people lazy. Instead of learning your Bible, and memorzing verses and their locations, we know we don't have to. Other than that, I think it's great. Espcially because you can choose from a variety of translations and versions. I have heard several accounts of people doing Bible studies with those from other countries and they gave them a copy of the passage in their first language. That's awesome.

David says, I went to www.shorttermmission.com, it is a mission site. This site has a search enginine to search for short term mission trips. This site takes you to listing of mission oppurtinuities around the world. You can learn about what ministry oppurtunity in missions there are. It gives you a chance to experience missions. The limitations it does not give you background infromation about the culture you will be going to.
